Lesson 09: Angels

Introduction Angels



Literal Meaning: The word 'Malaika is plural and its singular is 'Malak'. It's meanings are of messenger, and 'message conveyer'.



Explanatory meanings:



Angels are Allah's creation that is created from Light and it performs duty of conveying message between Creator and His creatures. They run the system of universe by Allah's order.



Contemporary Meanings: Angels are lightened creature of Allah and they are a source of conveying messages between the creature and his creatures. Allah descends on them His orders and they implement them on all creatures.



Allah says in Quran:



 



ولكن الْبِرَّ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَالْمَليكة والكتب والنيين (البقرة: 177



 



Translation: But (true) righteousness is (in) one who believers in Allah, the last Day, the angels, the book and the prophets.-



 



i. Traits of Angels:



This is the quality of angels that there are no feelings of evil in them and in Quran, their this very quality is mentioned.



Translation: They do not disobey any order of Allah and they do only whatever they are commanded (Surah Al Tehreem)



The third and core belief in Islam is to believe in angels. Allah has put the sense of good and evil both after creating man. Although, Allah has put spirit of good only in angels.



According to Allama Iqbal:.



"Farishton say behtr hay Insan hona



Magr is main parti hay mehnet ziada"



 



ii. Famous angels and their duties:



Hazrat Jibrail : Hazrat Jibrail is known as the leader of angels. He was assigned duty to bring wahee to Prophet. He used to bring revelation to Hazrat Muhammad and Quran was revealed through him.



Hazrat Israfeel: Hazrat Israfeel will blow the trumpet by Allah's order. He is standing alongwith the trumpet and will blow it by His order. Then every living thing will die. When he will blow it the second time, then all dead will be alive again and will be present in Allah's court. That will be the Day of Qiyamah. 



Hazrat Mikaeel: He has been assigned duties to bring rain and to provide sustenance to people.



Hazrat Izraeel: Hazrat Izraeel is also called the angel of death. He confiscates the soul of every living thing. It is said in Quran: Translation: (Surah Sajda Para 21)



"say, the angel of death will take you, who has been interested with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned.



 



iii. Other angels and their duties:



These are the two angles who write good and bad deeds of human beings.



Munkar Nakeer: Two angels that ask questions from human beings are called Munkar Nakeer.



Rizwan: This angel is the leader of angels who run system of paradise.



Maalik: He is the leader of angels who run system of hell.



Besides them, Allah has created countless angels and has given them different responsibilities.
